Double murder near Mumbai: Jilted lover kills girlfriend, her mother, slashes own throat

VIRAR: A 27-year-old man allegedly stabbed his girlfriend and her mother to death and then slashed his throat in Virar on Wednesday, a day after his marriage proposal was rejected. He was rushed to hospital, where is under treatment. Police filed an FIR against him for the murders. According to Bolinj police, Shivam Upadhyay, a Nalasopara resident who worked at his brother's grocery store, visited the home of his girlfriend, Nancy Mishra (24), to discuss their marriage with her mother, Sarita Mishra (48), on Tuesday. Nancy's father was away at work. Sarita allegedly opposed the marriage, which sparked an argument. Sources said even Nancy wasn't keen on marrying Upadhyay. Upadhyay returned on Wednesday, allegedly locked the flat from inside and attacked Nancy and Sarita repeatedly with a kitchen knife. The women sustained multiple stab injuries on neck, stomach and back, and died on the spot. Upadhyay then allegedly slashed his throat with a blade and fell unconscious. The violent struggle alerted neighbours, who called police.
